Abbas confirmed that he has instructed the relevant bodies to draft, within three months, a provisional constitution for the Palestinian state, which will serve as the basis for the transition from the Palestinian National Authority to a sovereign state. This document will include adjustments to the electoral law and other regulations to align them with the new constitutional provisions.
The Palestinian leader clarified that only parties, political groups, and individuals who follow the PLO’s political program, uphold international obligations, and endorse the two-state solution will be eligible to run in the upcoming elections.
They must also endorse the Arab Peace Initiative, comply with internationally recognized resolutions, and uphold the principle of “one system, one law, and a single legitimate security force.”
Abbas emphasized that the Palestinian leadership is striving to solidify international recognition of the State of Palestine and achieve full UN membership, aiming to end the Israeli occupation and establish an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Hours after the Palestinian Resistance Movement Hamas was responded to President Donald Trump’s proposal for a possible ceasefire in Gaza, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that “Israel” was preparing to implement the first phase of the plan.
The Zionist regime has conducted a genocidal campaign in the Gaza Strip since October 2023, with the death toll reaching 66,288 martyrs and 169,165 wounded—most of them women and children—according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
